First, the bonafides: This is a 1966 International Harvester Travelall. It’s got four wheel drive.

Now, the story:

I don’t usually go snooping in people’s yards for stuff - most of the time things are parked on the street in plain view. It’s kind of a rule, I guess. Anyway, I was sitting in Carytown (this is in Scott’s Addition) in a meeting when a fellow stumbled in and asked, “Is that yer Scout?” When I told him it was - though it was hard to know how’d figured it out - he started in on how great IH trucks were and then he said something that really caught my attention: “I have a 1966 Travelall behind my house. Come on by to look if you like.” It was music to my ears. And now I’m sharing it with you.

I did a little looking and people who are still driving these seem to say that they get about 12 miles to the gallon. I’m not sure I’d care. I love the lines on this. From the stance of the front end (the non 4x4 ones sit lower) to the curves of those rear pieces of glass… I’ll bet back when gas was a nickel a gallon, this was a stupid good time.
